Posner on GOP

The ABA Journal has an article on the recently restated views of Federal Judge Richard Posner, titled:  "Judge Posner Critic of ‘Goofy’ Trend in GOP, Says He’s Becoming Less Conservative".

Is he becoming less conservative or are some who claim to be conservative drifting in other directions?

As concerned as we are about President Obama, we must stay focused on what we believe is the American Dream and how to legitimately achieve it while protecting our sacred freedoms.

Without Doing Stupid Things Yourselves

A friend passed this along, claiming he (or someone) had seen it on a Marine Message Board, whatever that is:
  • Piss on a crucifix, and they'll call you an "Artist"
  • Piss on the American flag, and they'll call you a Freedom of Speech "Constitutionalist"
  • Piss on a police car, and they'll call you an Occupy Wall Street "Freedom Loving' 99 percent-er"
  • Piss on a Taliban POS that just tried to kill you and your fellow Marines, and they'll call you a "Villain"
That seems very American in the approach.  And, frankly, it is what we fight for.  Thank you to all those Service members out there, keeping us free to do stupid things while not doing stupid things yourselves.

Seating Fight

Our Hostess doesn't like links out (prefers links in—something about the numbers), but this seemed sufficiently important as to justify an exception to the rule.

Over at Red Mass Group is a blog post that talks to challenges to those who were elected from this Congressional District to go to the Republican National Convention, down in Tampa, as OUR delegates.

As background, ALL delegates are "pledged" to the winner of our primary on the first ballot.  Then it is Katie Bar the Door.

Here is the post, titled "Down Comes the Ax".

I would characterize this as "Down Town" Republicans vs "Grass Roots" Republicans.

How would you characterize it?

Republican Opponents in Lowell

According to The [Lowell] Sun, on Thursday, several local Democratic Party incumbents will have opponents in the General Election this autumn.  Reporter Chris Camire talked to Ms Gail Cenik, a manager at the City's Election and Census Commission.  Per Ms Cenik, the breakout is as follows (Challenger = Republican):

OFFICEINCUMBENTCHALLENGER
SenateEileen DonoghueJames Buba
16th MIddlesexTom GoldenJ P Hollembaek
17th MIddlesexDavid NangleMartin Burke
18th MiddlesexKevin Murphy

In the 16th Middlesex we actually had two folks gathering signatures.  The other was Mr Robert Merrill.  He apparently failed to gather the requisite number of signatures, so there will be no primary battle in September.

Congratulations to all those who gathered signatures.

Now it is incumbent upon the rest of us to help out in the run-up to the General Election, in November.

Voters and Gov Romney

Driving here and there on errands I am listening to the Diane Rehm show (NPR) and she has several folks talking about the General Election.  Newt Gingrich is dropping out next week.  What seemed strange is that they recognized that the boomlets by Senator Santorum and Speaker Gingrich as showing concern by Republicans for the conservative stripes of Governor Romney.  But, rather than seeing the flame-out of Santorum and Gingrich as showing a begrudging acceptance of Romney, they think Republican have not yet accepted Gov Romney.  I think they are wrong on this.

Not enthusiasm for the Governor, but acceptance.  Will they turn out to vote?  I think so.  I know I will.

Opponent in the 17th District

Thursday's edition of The [Lowell] Sun, in an article by Chris Camire, says that Martin Burke, of Ward 1, is going to run against incumbent State Representative David Nangle in this year's election.  Good on you, Mr Burke.  Quoting the article:
Burke, who owns an appraisal business on Merrimack Street, said he decided to get into the race in part to protect government programs that help people and do away with those that waste taxpayer dollars.
There is a good, sound fiscally conservative opinion.

Thank you, Mr Burke.
